My half-size build of the "Howl's Moving Castle (Flying Type)" paper model formerly available from Epson Japan (note that copies of the model which can be found on the Web *now* are there illegally).
The model is about six inches tall to the top of the tower.
I corresponded with Mr. Ives a bit some time back. I'd hoped to get some of his models in exchange for a sculpture I'd done. (He now owns "Banjo Man," who is featured in "Banjo Man and Georgia.") But by the time I got the sculpture to him, I think he'd forgotten that I was sending it as part of a trade. He thanked me for it when I finally broke down and asked if he'd ever received it, but by then, I didn't have the heart to pipe up and say..."Well? Where's your part of the bargain?" (Still and all, I love his models.)
In my opinion, the very best automata online, - and FREE, no less - can be found at PaperPino. That guy's work is phenomenal. His "Flying Santa" and "Rolling Reels Circus" are particular favorites.
Jeff Hoke's work sounds really great!

Giuseppi "PINO" Civitarese is an excellent designer, I must agree. Another to look for is Walter Ruffler, but I don't have a URL for him at the moment.
Bummer about the confusion with Rob; I understand your position, though. :-/
Jeff was completely unaware that anyone was doing paper models. I sent him a bunch of links after the con, and he was floored. The notion of publishing his own models as .PDF downloads had also completely passed him by.
When I got the model I bought home, I couldn't bear to cut it up. I had to scan it and build from a print of that instead. The model sheets are works of art themselves.
Ooo - Walter Ruffler. If he's the one I'm recalling, he did one of a family of ducks swimming through marsh grass that I really enjoyed building... Wonder if I'm thinking of the right person, though.
Wow - to think that someone with Jeff's skills didn't know there are people who just LUHHHHV making paper models!!! Or about .pdfs! Being able to share information like this is one of the reasons I enjoy dA so much. It's a great forum to exhange ideas and suggestions.
I completely understand your feelings about cutting up the original of his model, though. Particularly when it was costly. I'll have to keep on the lookout for his works. I'd love to see them in person, even if only in book form.

The propellors at the back turn, and the wings flap.
I just go ga-ga for models that have moving parts!

I met the artist/author/designer, Jeff Hoke, at Comic-Con last year, but could only afford one of his models; I would love to have the whole book!
I bought the Hypnotrope which is operated by blowing through a tube in the base.
Also Rob Ives's Flying Pig Gallery: [link]

Jeff's closer to you than he is to me; he's in Alameda as I recall, with the nuclear wessels.
